An excerpt from Othello. Act V, Scene II

It is the cause, it is the cause, my soul –

Let me not name it to you, you chaste stars!–

It is the cause. Yet I’ll not shed her blood;

Nor scar that whiter skin of hers than snow,

And smooth as monumental alabaster.

Yet she must die, else she’ll betray more men.

Put out the light, and then put out the light:

If I quench thee, thou flaming minister,

I can again thy former light restore,

Should I repent me: but once put out thy light,

Thou cunning’st pattern of excelling nature,

I know not where is that Promethean heat

That can thy light relume. When I have pluck’d the rose,

I cannot give it vital growth again.

It must needs wither: I’ll smell it on the tree.

[Kissing her]

Ah balmy breath, that dost almost persuade

Justice to break her sword! One more, one more.

Be thus when thou art dead, and I will kill thee,

And love thee after. One more, and this the last:

So sweet was ne’er so fatal. I must weep,

But they are cruel tears: this sorrow’s heavenly;

It strikes where it doth love. She wakes.

Keith, Programming Manager at the Foundation and avid climber, recommends this as a must-watch to learn about a lost figure in the Modern Art Historic narrative, and the socio-political conditions of the 20th Century, which shaped and governed Stanislav Szukalski’s practice.

Directed by George Lucas

Starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher

Smriti, a true sci-fi and superhero geek, recommends this cult film, that is simultaneously layered with context and timeless. It reminds her of an excerpt from Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche: “How could anything originate out of its opposite? For example, truth out of error? or the Will to Truth out of the will to deception? Or the generous deed out of selfishness? or the pure sun-bright vision of the wise man out of covetousness? Such genesis is impossible; whoever dreams of it is a fool…”

Directed by Jim Jarmusch

Starring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska

Shayanika, the voice behind our buzzing social media accounts, recommends this film that takes you deep inside the routine of a centuries-old romance through an atmosphere of conversations, haunting music, existential dread, and supernatural lore. A perfect companion to contemplate the romance of tragedy in times of social-distancing.

Directed by Lijo Jose Pellisery

Starring Antony Varghese, Anna Rajan, Kichu Tellus, Appani Sarath

Prajit recommends this for the amazing cast, multi-location scenes, and technical feats such as a 12-minute-long sequence where the camera moves to multiple locations, focuses on different characters, objects and situations… but there are no cuts in between!

Directed by Eric Bass and J Mackye Gruber

Starring Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Eric Stoltz

Faraz, who oversees digital and strategy, loves the idea of time travel and chaos theory in the movie—which takes him back to the inquisitiveness of his childhood days!

Directed by Tim Burton

Starring Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall

Prerna, our effervescent Senior Programming Manager, recommends this blend of fantasy and romance, with surrealist backdrops and a tender heart.

Directed by Amar Kaushik

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar, Yami Gautam

Rishabh, a production expert with a philosopher’s heart, recommends this movie as it helps us overcome the struggles to measure up to social beauty standards.

Directed by Tony Scott

Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson

Kaustav, media-wiz by day, musician by night, recommends The Unstoppable: “coz it’s Denzel”! An unmanned, half-mile-long freight train hurtles towards a town at breakneck speed. An engineer and a young conductor, who happen to be on the same route, must race against time to try and stop it

Starring Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana ShaikhPooja, the always-cheerful, never defeated force behind our travel and stay team, recommends Dangal as a must-watch as “some parents are unaware of what their children want to do in the future and some parents are so possessive about they create boundaries for their children. Most of the time children don’t know why there parents behave the way they do. The moral of the story is – believe in yourself. The only person who makes you or stops you is only YOU. We are unaware of our capabilities. It is very important for families to support their children and not to get caught in hearsay of the society, and to focus on your family’s future.”
