Serendipity Arts Residency 2022

ABOUT

Serendipity Arts Foundation is delighted to announce the OPEN CALL for Serendipity Arts Residency 2022, an annual three-month artists residency based in New Delhi. Applications are invited from emerging artists working across all disciplines, including a broad range of forms such as movement-based practices, theatre and writing-based practices, and artists engaged in installation, sound or other innovative media.

Now in its fifth edition, Serendipity Arts Residency is an intensive studio-based residency for emerging artists. It seeks to provide its residents space and resources to develop their practice, work on a new project and interact with the broader art community in New Delhi. In the course of the three months, the four artists selected for the programme will participate in a lineup of peer-to-peer conversations, critique sessions, gallery and studio visits, artist talks and presentations etc. Alongside, they will be required to conceptualize and produce a new work. The residency will conclude with a week long open studio.

FACILITIES

Residents will be provided furnished accommodation and access to Serendipity Arts Foundation’s basement studio spaces (750-800 sqft) in Defence Colony, at the heart of south Delhi. Besides a basic monthly per diem for meals, they will also be entitled to a production grant to cover purchase of material, implements, additional technical support etc. The Foundation will provide assistance in the implementation of the artist’s projects, supply technical infrastructure, and build publicity for events organised around the residency. It will also help residents contact curators, critics, gallery owners etc. they are keen to reach out to. The residency then becomes a platform for artists to build networks and interact with professional possibilities within the artworld.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

Aabshaar Wakhloo

Aabshaar Wakhloo is a body based practitioner and dancer-choreographer. She holds a BA degree is Dance, Context, Choreography from Inter-University of Dance Berlin. Her artistic practice, reflective and curious of an array of fields, “lays” in the interstices of research and practice of the body.

Her recent inclination towards video-dance work, has opened up possibilities of working compositionally, while also addressing the idea of viewing bodies on screen. She is also the co-founder of Among Us, a virtual initiative started in 2021, which invites various body oriented practitioners to facilitate workshops, praxis as well as discourse. Aabshaar enjoys teaching, her sessions range from Bollywood Dance to exploring the sensuality- suppleness of the spine to innovating movement metaphors as ways to build connection and presence, also with our surroundings.

Nithin Shamsudhin

Fascinated by all things ‘sound’ and ‘listening’, Nithin stumbled across his passion for curating listening experiences. His artistic practice revolves around facilitating listening spaces that allow listeners to enter an open, empathetic and attentive state of mind.

As a multimedia producer, Nithin has worked for organizations like The Ken, Harappa Education and Nayi Dhara.
Nithin holds a Masters Degree in Liberal Arts from Ashoka University, and Bachelors in Computer Engineering from IIITDM Kancheepuram. In his free time, Nithin curates mixtapes and tries to make a living producing podcasts. Nithin is also a violinist.

Supriya Dongre

Supriya is a student at National institute of Design pursuing masters in Photography Design. She takes inspiration from personal experiences. Her practice lies in the crossroads of human conditions and catharsis.

Supriya is deeply interested in research and transmedia practices.

zeropowercut.work

zeropowercut.work is developing methodologies to cut realities as work. The practice-project experiments with relational and temporal gestures, with images, ambiences, drawings, text, etc. to navigate knowledge as interpersonalpolitical and emotionalrational expressions.

zeropowercut.work emerges from Caste-based inexpressibilities that image realities as unintelligible, and is motivated to explore that absence.

Sukanya Deb

Sukanya Deb is a writer and curator based out of New Delhi. Previously having worked at Terrain.art (2021-22) and Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art (FICA) (2018-21), her interest lies in research-based practices and interface and exhibitory logic across traditional media, digital and hybrid forms.

Currently she is considering the multiplicitous forms that writing occupies and the role of material and referentiality in text-based practice. She writes for STIRworld, and has been featured in ASAP | ART
