Serendipity Arts Production Grant for Independent Musicians is for all independent music creators across different genres to support the process of creating, recording, producing and releasing and/or presenting new music. The grant will be awarded to bands, duos, groups or individual independent musicians with a grant of up to INR 1,00,000.

ELIGIBILITY

  • No age limit.
  • Applicants must be independent musicians– not signed by any music label.
  • Applicants must hold an Indian bank account.

Application Details

  • The Grant is open to solo artists, bands, duos, and collaborators. 
  • We will require a project proposal and a project execution plan with timelines. 
  • Applications must submit details of past work in the form of web links or uploads. 
  • WIP samples are to be uploaded (if any).
  • A detailed budget must be submitted along with the application. 
  • A completed Application Form must be submitted in order for the proposal to qualify for shortlisting.

Deliverables

  • The Awardees, upon the completion of the project, must submit a Project Report.
  • An audited Fund Utilisation Certificate, as per the format provided, for the total fund granted must be submitted by the Grantees to Serendipity Arts. 
  • Serendipity Arts shall connect the Grantee to field experts, mentors, practitioners, and other professionals from the SAF universe, to aid in expanding the scope of the chosen project based on requirement

Timeline and Process of Selection

  • The deadline for applications is May 22, 2023.
  • The Grantees will be selected by a Jury. 
  • The Grantees will be announced in May, 2023.

Terms & Conditions

  • The proposed project must be music which has not been released in the public domain except for project proposals which involve presenting music, for instance, for creating a music video or executing a tour. 
  • The Grant must be availed within 12 months of receiving it. 
  • After selection, the Grantees shall sign a contract with Serendipity Arts to complete the selection process
  • Reports/WIP are to be submitted every month, after receiving the Grant
  • The Grant has to produce a tangible outcome by the end of the 12month period from the date of receiving the Grant. 
  • The Grant will be given out in three instalments: 1st on signing the agreement, 2nd and 3rd on submitting reports and utilisation certificates after every quarter. 
  • The Grant amount will be subject to 10% TDS deduction and GST deduction (if the applicant holds a GST-registered account).
  • Due credits are to be given to Serendipity Arts, wherever the Grant project is presented or released

JURY

Tarun Balani

Tarun’s music and artistry has been described as “nothing short of remarkable” (AllAboutJazz, USA) and his debut album, Sacred World has said to “Point to the future of jazz in India” (Time Out Magazine, India). Regarded as “one of the finest and most successful jazz drummers and composers to emerge from the country ” (The Wild City ), with his latest release “The Shape of Things to Come” on Berthold Records, Tarun delivers yet another fearless, imaginative and heartfelt set of music. 

 

While Tarun continues to feature his genre bending quartet with trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, pianist Sharik Hasan, guitarist Olli Hirvonen across the globe, he also broadens his palette with a gripping new live act as Seasonal Affected Beats in India. On his debut EP 2° as Seasonal Affected Beats, he brings the finesse, controlled volatility and discipline of jazz and merges it with malleability of electronic beats. 

 

An inward and spiritual experience for Tarun, music has had a very special impact on his life, in finding his voice as an artist, and building a career as a composer, performer and an educator. His music is driven by a restless desire to be a holistic artist, and inspired by his Indian roots. 

Tarun’s music has been featured on WNYC, MTV, VH1, Coke Studio India, hr2 Kultur, Red Bull Music, and HIT95FM. Tarun endorses Zildjian cymbals and Sensory Percussion. 

Vasundhara Vee

Vasundhara Vee is a Soul and Jazz singer based out of Mumbai. Her music is about personal empowerment and humane-ness to self. For 15 years now, she has performed nationally and internationally in concerts, jazz festivals and collaborations. Vee works with the luminaries of the Indian Music Industry – Louiz Banks, Ranjit Barot, Loy Mendonsa, Dhruv Ghanekar, Sanjay Divecha, Ajay-Atul. Her specific vocal style has also been featured in Bollywood feature films and in various web series. 
In 2022, she made a debut in the Pop Soul space with her song ‘Run’ which was Awarded Best Pop Song by Radio & Music Society. 
Vasundhara Vee is also working with Global Music Institute for the Delhi Government that is now offering Music as a 4 year major at the school level. She is designing the curriculum and training faculty for western vocals for this historic move in public education.  

Zubin Balaporia

Zubin Balaporia is a musician based in Mumbai. For thirty years, he toured, performed and recorded with the fairly well established Indian rock band–Indus Creed. Formerly known as Rock Machine, the band was recognised as one of the pioneering musical acts, responsible for putting Indian rock on the international map. With Rock Machine/ Indus Creed, Zubin recorded, arranged, performed and co-produced all 4 of the band’s albums. They have representedIndia at theFestival of India In the former Soviet Union. They have also performed at major festivals including the Peter Gabriel sponsored Womad Festival in Reading in the United Kingdom and major clubs in the United States of America.  

Zubin has also produced music, sound design and signature tunes for television, radio commercials and corporate films for major international brands since 1988, some of which are  Airtel, Adidas, Bajaj, Britannia, Coke, Close Up, Cosmopolitan, Dove, Discovery, Dabur, Emami, Ford, Fogg, Godrej, HDFC, Jet Airways, Lakme, Johnson & Johnson,Larsen & Toubro, Mastercard, Maruti, McDonalds, Mercedes Benz, Nokia, Ponds, Pepsi, Sprite, Samsung, Tanishq, Tata Steel, Taj Hotels, Vodafone, etc. Zubin has produced & directed music for the the film Dev directed by Govind Nihalani, with Vishal/Shekhar for Honeymoon Travels, for Lafangey Parindey, Fireflies, Mind the Malhotras, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Taj of Apollo Bunder, Merchant Princess of Bombay, Keepers of the Flame, among many others.  

GRANTEE

Abhibyanjana

Abhibyanjana (she/her) is an independent musician from Gangtok, Sikkim. Her music draws on deeply personal experiences and talks about the complexities of girlhood, the conflicting aspects of her identity, generational trauma, and mental health.

Uru Paanar

Uru Paanar is a Chennai-based music band that embraces the rich heritage of Tamil music through a unique blend of independent sounds and indigenous instruments.

FAQS

  • I have already released my album and want to use this Grant for planning a tour or performance, am I eligible?
    Yes, the Grant can be used for planning the tour or performance.

  • Can I apply if I have an Indian bank account but if I don’t reside in India currently?
    Yes, if it is a group/duo applying, then at least one member must have an Indian Bank account.

  • Is this Grant only for producing/presenting original compositions?
    No, not necessarily. It is open for all genres and forms of music/compositions. However, you shall be responsible for acquiring IPRS/PPL licenses, approvals and any other licenses and permissions with regard to the content you present.
  • Am I eligible to apply if I have no formal training in music?
    Yes, absolutely!

  • I am a musician, but can I use the grant to collaborate with a visual artist for a series of performances?
    Yes, these details must be mentioned in the project proposal and budget break-up if finances are applicable.
  • I cannot access the application form. How can I apply?
