Serendipity at G20

These pillars are a contemporary and a renewed form of limewash techniques and fresco work. The shape is inspired by the Hampi ruins and columns from Kerala. Finished partly in various shades of lime wash, they are embellished with frescoes from Kerala and the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. The limewash technique involves preparing crushed limestone thinned with water and adding natural pigments to the mixture for desired colours. And the Shekhawati region has the largest concentration of frescoed homes in the world, built between the 17th and 20th centuries. While the gigantic murals depict local themes from daily life, folk tales and mythology, they also capture the impact of material culture and new inventions brought in by European migration.
