The Anthropomorphic Totems
Designer – Priyanka Narula
Artisans – Mohammed Ghoush, Akber Khan, Ahsan Ali
These items that ensure zero-wastage craft practice, use three types of yields procured manually from the cane plant – the solid reed that provides strength to the structure, the gaba and the taar, both used for warp and weft, with the gaba more specifically lending fluidity to the form. The Anthropomorphic Totems from Hyderabad have been designed by Priyanka Narula with the help of weavers and senior artisans Mohammed Ghoush, Akber Khan and Ahsan Ali, who have been practising this craft for over four decades.
